Applied Research in Support of Wildlife Conservation

Welcome to the Applied Forest and Wildlife Ecology Laboratory (AFWEL) in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. We conduct applied research on all aspects of wildlife ecology, with a focus on the relationships between wildlife and forest management. Here, "forest management" refers to a variety of activities including the mechanized harvesting of trees, chemical control of competing vegetation, biomass harvesting, and use of prescribed fire for ecological restoration. Check out our web page and learn more about the work we do.
